RTÉ’s hit crime drama KIN is set to return to our screens as early as next year, EVOKE can reveal, and everyone from the cast to the show’s fans cannot wait to dive back into the series.
The future of the third series of the RTÉ show was left uncertain after its production company BRON filed for bankruptcy in July 2023.
Now RTÉ has revealed the latest instalment has been snapped up by Metropolitan Pictures and House of Juno, who will produce the third season – and fans won’t have to wait too long to see it on our screens.
An RTÉ synopsis reveals: ‘As buried betrayals resurface and internal rivalries intensify, the new series promises the darkest and most compelling chapter yet of the Kinsella story.’
The full line-up includes major new productions and returning audience favourites.
One of the show’s leading men, Emmett Scanlon, led the excitement over KIN’s return on Tuesday, sharing a video of himself walking and chatting.
In the clip, he said: ‘One of the questions, I’m sorry, THE question I get asked the most is, “is there going to be a season three of Kin?” F**k yeah there is!’
TV fans were delighted to see Emmett’s video, with one person commenting ‘let’s goooo!’ and another saying: ‘Pop that champagne, so ready!’
In addition to the hugely anticipated KIN going into production for next year, RTÉ has also confirmed that Fair City is continuing to provide a four times weekly hit of drama and that this autumn will see the arrival of Tall Tales & Murder and The Yank (working title).
Also returning to our screens will be The Walsh Sisters, which follows the lives of Rachel, Claire, Maggie, Anna, and Helen.
The news comes as the national broadcaster has unveiled its ‘most ambitious drama slate ever’, with a record-breaking 160 hours of Irish drama either currently in production or scheduled to air throughout 2026. According to RTE, this is an increase on last year’s 142 hours.
Director of Video at RTÉ, Steve Carson, said: ‘We’re heading into our biggest ever year for new Irish drama on RTÉ.
‘Numerous productions are currently filming across the country delivering significant economic and cultural impact to communities nationwide whilst showcasing Ireland’s exceptional talents to audiences at home and internationally.
‘From picturesque Connemara in Galway to the heart of the cities of Dublin and Cork, RTÉ is not only supporting regional production, but creating real employment opportunities throughout the industry.
‘The scale of the 2026 slate will support hundreds of jobs across the Irish screen industry, including writers, directors, producers, crews, post-production teams, designers, and technical specialists, reinforcing RTÉ’s central role in the continued growth of Ireland’s audiovisual economy.
‘We would particularly like to thank our Irish partners Screen Ireland and Coimisiún na Méan and acknowledge the value to the industry of Section 481 tax relief, all of which have made these productions possible.’
Already broadcast in 2026 and now streaming on RTÉ Player are These Sacred Vows, SisterS, The Young Offenders, and The Dry.
The 2026 offering also includes a significant commitment to children’s drama and audio storytelling with eight new hours of Irish drama programming through Drama on One on RTÉ Radio 1, ensuring audiences of all ages can access original Irish drama across multiple platforms.
