Una Healy has opened up about the reason she feels alcohol never suited her and revealed that she has been diagnosed with ADHD.
The singer made the announcement while chatting about how she is nearly a year alcohol-free and feels so much better having decided to become sober.
She says that she never really felt that drinking alcohol suited her, which she thinks makes sense in light of her diagnosis.

Una recalled feeling how she was attracted to the ‘dopamine rush’ of drinking and how one or two would leave her feeling calm, but then she would crash and feel ‘horrible’ the next day.
She said: ‘I am coming up to a year off the drink, and I actually can’t believe it. Just a little update… just to say, I’m feeling amazing and so happy. I’m so happy to stop drinking.
‘That’s all I can say. Loads of people are wondering: “Oh, did you have a problem? Why did you stop? Or how do you stop?’

‘Well, I finally gave in to the fact that alcohol didn’t suit me; it never really did, and I don’t think I was really enjoying myself most of the time.
‘It was kind of like that dopamine rush I think that I enjoyed.
‘I actually got diagnosed with ADHD recently, so that makes a lot of sense, but I kinda like that one or two little drinks; you’re like “the calm” but then it was like [the crash].’

She went on to describe how it affected her the next day, saying: ‘Yeah, just a complete disaster; [it] never suited me like the next day, horrific and then it’s just that little habit that you get into, oh, I’ll have a couple in the evening just to wind down and then you just feel terrible.’
Una is so much happier now than when she was drinking and has embraced non-alcoholic wine.
She adds that she hasn’t had to really change her behaviour in social settings and urged anyone considering giving up alcohol to know that they can do it.

‘I love my life so much more without it, and if I can do it, you can do it. Now, I’m not preaching here to tell people to give up drinking; it can be really fun.
‘I’m happy to be around people who are having a few. I’ve actually discovered non alcoholic wine, which I’m really enjoying.
‘I haven’t stopped doing anything that I wouldn’t normally do in social situations, and you get really used to it, and it’s actually class; you wake up the next day with no hangover and take it all in and don’t make a fool of yourself.’
