Fair City star Beverley Callard said that she fainted while on the set of Fair City as she continues her battle with cancer.

Beverley, who made a name for herself on Coronation Street, swapped Corrie for Carrigstown earlier this year after she played Liz McDonald on the Manchester cobbles on-and-off for 30 years.

It was announced that she would play Gwen’s long-lost mother, Lily, but just minutes before she was set to make her debut in the show, she learned that she was diagnosed with breast cancer.

Beverley has been sharing regular updates on her diagnosis on social media, but she revealed that while getting ready to film a scene with Emily Lamey, who plays Gwen, Beverley lost consciousness for several minutes.

‘I’ve been at work this week, filming the most amazing scenes. Really good, great scripts, working with people who are so good, but good fun as well,’ Beverley said in a video on her Instagram.

‘And it was all going swimmingly, and then today, I’ve no idea what happened to me, but I was all ready to start a new scene with Emily, who plays my daughter, and we just sat there getting ready, about to run lines, and I lost consciousness for a few minutes, maybe 10 minutes, which was very odd.’

Beverley said that, despite her not wanting it, an ambulance was called and brought her to hospital in line with protocol; where she admitted that she wasn’t sure why she passed out.

‘Because of protocol, they had to check me out and everything. An ambulance came. I desperately didn’t want to go to hospital,’ she said. ‘I recovered and felt fine again but I can’t explain what it was. I was boiling hot. I seemed to lose 10 minutes but I don’t know why.

‘I was checked out by the ambulance men and everything and they were happy to let me come home as long as I rested. So I’ve got rest all weekend but now, I have to tell you, I feel a complete fraud because I’m home and I feel perfectly normal.’

Beverley added that her blood pressure was high as a result of the fainting spell, but she admitted that that was probably a side effect of her undergoing radiotherapy to treat her cancer.

Speaking about her initial diagnosis earlier this year, Beverley revealed that she was just minutes away from filming her first scenes on the show when she got a call from her consultant, advising her to come back to the UK.

‘I knew I was coming over here for four weeks, and then I’d a couple of weeks back in the UK, and then back here for a long time,’ Beverley said on the Late Late Show.

‘But I’d had some tests just before I left the UK, and literally 15-20 minutes before [filming] I was in my dressing room at Fair City, getting ready to go on, and I was quite nervous, thinking: “I hope everyone thinks I’m alright…”

‘My consultant rang me and said: “we need you to come back to the UK,”‘ Beverley continued. ‘I said “well I can’t possibly, you know? I’ve just taken a new job… I’m away for a month.” And I was diagnosed with breast cancer.’

‘My head was a bit mashed for the first few days. It’s very early stages. And I’m along with thousands of other women [who get diagnosed] as well.’
