Cillian Murphy’s son, Aran, has begun to follow in his father’s footsteps as he stars in Sharon Horgan’s new HBO series, Youth.
The first trailer has been released for the show, which premieres on September 20, showing Aran in action as the adult son of Sharon’s lead character Alex.
In the show, Alex is a 50-year-old divorcee who is searching for romance while juggling the care of her elderly parents and helping Ruari, her son, as he heads off to university.
Sharon created the eight-part series herself and is taking on the lead role alongside her impressive cast.
The show also stars Rupert Friend as Alex’s love interest Patrick, Sharlene Whyte as her colleague Sam, and Robbie Gee as Frank. Harriet Walter, Anne Reid and Freddie Fox will all also make appearances.
The new trailer for Youth shows Alex trying to get back into the dating scene as she goes out clubbing and catches the night bus home.
After meeting Patrick, she tells Sam: ‘Think I can get back out there. Just fun, lightly degrading sex.’
This is when we get our first look at Aran’s Ruari, who is standing right behind her and looking far from amused.
Youth is a significant step forward for Aran in the acting world, after his appearance in the film Lola.
According to IMDb, he has also made appearances in the TV show War and the film Klara and the Sun.
The Youth trailer goes on to show Alex juggling a promotion attempt at work while caring for her parents.
She says: ‘My mum’s got eight homes. My dad spends 90% of his time looking for keys.’
It also reveals her strained relationship with Ruari’s dad, as she rings to inform him their son is experiencing a ‘crisis’, though his response is simply that they must get him ‘off social media’.
The trailer ends with Alex back on the night bus as she drops her burger to the ground and another passenger eyes her disapprovingly.
