Sharon Horgan has joked that she has so far avoided the dating app, Tinder, after her divorce.

The creator of HBO’s Youth split from businessman Jeremy Rainbird, in 2019 after 14 years together.

Sharon began conceiving her comedy-drama series around six years prior to its release, starting the process during her own divorce and writes about some of her experiences in the show.

Asked by host Brendan O’Connor on his RTÉ Radio 1 show, Sharon said: ‘Yeah, I did. Yeah, I mean, like, most people. I mean, it’s not something that I sort of relished the idea of, and I’ve never sort of done the Tinder thing.

‘I’ve never done that…. the sort of dating apps or anything like that.

‘But yeah, I did start writing it about six, maybe even seven years ago. It was pre Bad Sisters, anyway.

‘You know, post Catastrophe, sort of thinking like, what should I write about next? And I mean, weirdly, I’d already written about divorce. I’ve made a show called Divorce, but as a married person, and I suppose I felt like I’ve got more to say about, or I felt like I had more to say about that period of your life.

‘You know, as an older person getting back out there, but also it was more sort of about wanting to explore this particular time of life and the sandwich generation of it all.’

Sharon previously told The Guardian how ‘everything changed’ for her when she got into her 50s, saying she thought she would never have sex again when she divorced.

‘Everything just changed for me when I hit my 50s,’ she said.

‘When I found myself divorced. I genuinely thought I’d be alone for ever. I didn’t even know if I’d ever have sex again. There’s that extreme fear of being alone and being lonely.

‘But at the same time, you think you have a freedom as well. You do suddenly think: “My kids have finished school, I’ve got some time to try and get this right.”‘
