The rain is expected to break for day two of Electric Picnic — although Met Éireann’s weather advisory may put a dampener on proceedings.

Zara Larsson, Sombr and Lewis Capaldi closed out the main stage on day one of the festival, and while Friday afternoon was a washout, picnickers managed to enjoy a never-ending Midnight Sun as things dried out for the main event.

While the rain returned overnight, weather expert Alan O’Reilly took to his Carlow Weather account to confirm that while there will be showers on Saturday, things are set to clear up for CMAT and Gorillaz, who will close out the main stage tonight.

‘The rain did arrive overnight, and it continues to fall if you look at the latest radar,’ Alan shared from Stradbally. ‘[The rain will] slowly move east… it will clear east by late afternoon; in Stradbally, it’ll clear a little earlier, probably 3 or 4; it’ll start to break up.

‘There will be sunny spells,’ he added. ‘There is a risk of showers, hopefully not as heavy as yesterday, but there is a risk of a shower. We will see a much better evening for those at Electric Picnic, and generally across the country.’

Despite the good news for night two, Alan warned that Sunday might be another washout, saying: ‘It’s gonna be very scattered, heavy in places, and there is a risk of some heavy thundery downpours again on Sunday. But Sunday evening looks pretty good, so it’s a very mixed bag.’

Despite the good (and bad) news from Alan, Met Éireann has also warned that things aren’t looking good — issuing an overnight weather advisory for the country.

The advisory — not an actual weather warning — reads: ‘Heavy showers or longer spells of rain will become widespread from the southwest on Saturday night and during Sunday.

‘Some localised torrential downpours will occur with the potential for thunderstorms, lightning and associated gusty winds. While they will be hit and miss, some localised flooding may occur.’

The weather advisory will be valid from 3 am on Sunday morning (August 30), and will last until 3 am on Monday (August 31).

CMAT and Gorillaz headline the main stage on Saturday night, while Amble and Fontaines DC close the festival on Sunday night.
