Veteran broadcaster Pat Kenny has revealed he is set to host a new venture as he opens up about making ‘adjustments’ to his home life after his Newstalk move.

The former Late Late Show host has transitioned his radio programme to weekends on Newstalk, now airing on Saturdays and Sundays from 10am to 12pm.

He presented his final weekday show in January 2026, making way for Claire Byrne to take over the mid-morning slot.

Speaking about the move to weekends, the 78-year-old said: ‘It’s grand. The programme is going very well.

‘There has been an adjustment on the domestic front because we used to enjoy our weekends and now, we have to be well-behaved on the weekends.

‘It was always the long-term plan (a radio show at the weekend), but I always told them I would never want to fall off a cliff.’

But Pat said he will be busier than ever as he is set to launch his first podcast.

‘Friday, you finish work, and that was it. That was the plan… taking it easy by doing two days a week, but it is much more than that, I will be doing a podcast as well so I will be quite busy, I think,’ he said.

Asked what the podcast will be centred around, he said: ‘That is still TBC (to be decided), but it will probably focus on international affairs, but it is still in development.’

The Dubliner – who left RTÉ to move to Newstalk in 2013 – gave his thoughts on The Late Late Show returning with host Patrick Kielty back in the hot seat.

‘The appetite for current affairs and the big stories….I don’t think the Late Late Show majored on those. They do a lot of human interest and tales of survival and triumph.

‘But in terms of actually the big debates of the country, they have kind of been absent from The Late Late Show,’ he added.
