Maia Dunphy has revealed she got into an ‘unnecessarily heated conversation’ with a pet owner this week.
The TV presenter approached the dog owner who had left their canine friend in the car… with the windows closed.
Taking to social media, Maia shared details of the conversation, noting that the pet owner had argued they were ‘only going shopping for two minutes.’
Appealing to her followers, Maia urged those leaving their pets in the car to keep a window cracked open.
She said: ‘Just got into an unnecessarily heated conversation with people who’d left their dogs in a car with the windows closed because “they were only going shopping for 2 minutes”, and weren’t at all happy with those of us who were concerned.
‘Folks, at this stage, I thought everyone knew this isn’t okay?? If you have to leave your pet in the car for any length of time at all, leave the windows open a small bit!!!!’
Friends and followers took to the comments, expressing their shock and anger at Maia’s experience.
‘Makes me soooo angry,’ one fumed. ‘How often do we see it, EVERY summer. Dogs or children, left in a car, in the blazing heat. Those people, who say it’s only two minutes, should sit in a car for 10 to 20 minutes, no air con or open windows.’
Another echoed: ‘Makes me so angry. Thank the heavens you were there.’
A third shared: ‘Good for you! The thing is that these people, if they were to admit it, know it’s not okay, but unfortunately don’t actually care? And when challenged get defensive and more than likely lie about the time they’ve been gone…’
