Their sudden split sent shockwaves through the world of show business. And in the 15 years since her divorce from Russell Brand, Katy Perry has largely maintained what fans have called a ‘dignified silence’.
She has yet to comment on his conviction for rape and sexual assault, but the Mail on Sunday has learned that the pop singer is
planning to tell all about her ‘dark marriage’ in a book and docuseries.
Sources close to the star claim she was waiting for the outcome of Russel’s trial before finalising a deal but has been in ‘active discussions’ to tell her side of their 14-month marriage, which ended in 2011.

A well-placed Hollywood source said: ‘Katy has received multiple offers over the years to tell her story but would not consider anything until after the trial. She has a lot to say.
‘At the moment she’s considering a Netflix-type series and an autobiography. She and her team have been in active discussions.
There is a lot about that marriage which people don’t know. It was a very dark period in her life.’ The source claimed her team
have been in touch with streaming giants including Netflix and Hulu.
Katie was not asked to testify during the trial but it has emerged she may have been in the room during one of Russell’s sexual
assaults, which took place in 2009.

Katie was convicted of sexually assaulting a female Channel 4 employee after asking her for a massage and then ‘thrust and
pressed his head into her lap around her groin area’ leaving the woman feeling ‘repulsed’.
In legal submissions before Russell’s rape trial – made public after his conviction – Ian Winter KC, defending, said of the 2009
incident: ‘The victim says that other people were in the room and witnessed it, possibly including the defendant’s future wife, Ms
Katy Perry.’ Russell’s legal team successfully argued that his marriage to the singer was irrelevant to the allegations and prosecutors agreed not to mention her.

The British Crown Prosecution Service confirmed that Katie – who is dating former Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau –
was never approached or asked to provide a witness statement to police. The couple met while Russell was filming Get Him To The Greek in 2009, marrying the following year in a Hindu ceremony in India.
However, by the end of 2011, the marriage was over, with Russell dumping Katie by text moments before she was due on stage.
The I Kissed A Girl and Firework singer has hinted she knows more about Russell’s dark side, telling fans this summer that he should be ‘in jail’. She has not spoken about his conviction. And in an interview with Vogue in 2013, she said: ‘At first, when I met him he wanted an equal and I think a lot of times strong men do want an equal, but then they get that equal and they’re like, I can’t
handle the equalness.

‘He didn’t like the atmosphere of me being the boss on tour. So that was really hurtful, and it was very controlling, which was upsetting. ‘I felt a lot of responsibility for it ending. But then I found out the real truth, which I can’t necessarily disclose because I keep it locked in my safe for a rainy day.’
Russell humiliated Katie just weeks before their December 2011 split by removing his wedding ring and joking about ‘bedding’ college girls during a university tour of America.

In a video posted on the NudeVista website, he revealed he was preparing for what he described as ‘a week of revolution’.
Russell told viewers he was looking forward to discovering the antics of female students firsthand, before pointedly removing
his wedding ring and joking he would hide it ‘somewhere very, very safe’ while on the road. He added: ‘I don’t know what a sorority is except for what I have seen (online) that they are sort of sex clubs for women.’
There had been earlier signs the marriage was in trouble. Katie Ms Perry was said to be furious when her husband posted a photo
on to social media of her waking up in bed without make-up. The picture was quickly removed.
She later had a decade-long relationship with actor Orlando Bloom, with whom she has a daughter. Her representatives
were approached for comment.
