Justin Bieber has added his name to an already stacked all-star lineup for the somewhat criticised World Cup final half-time show.

While football fans have spoken out against the ‘Americanisation’ of this year’s tournament, the grand finale on July 19 looks set to lean into a Super Bowl-style experience.

A half-time show has long been a staple of the NFL’s main event, though this year marks the first time it has ever made its way into the World Cup.

Despite the widespread disapproval from football fans, FIFA has announced a star-studded lineup for the show, with Bieber joining Madonna, Shakira and BTS.

The 11-minute set is also set to feature Burna Boy, Gustavo Dudamel and the PS22 Chorus featuring Coldplay, and Sesame Street characters.

The show has been curated by Coldplay’s Chris Martin and will raise money for the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund, an initiative working to raise $100m (€87m) for children worldwide.

Shakira and Burna Boy were among the performers who opened the tournament across the three host nations, with their hit Dai Dai becoming a fixture at matches since the June 11 launch.

In a statement about his involvement in the final half-time show, Bieber said: ‘The FIFA World Cup brings the world together in a way nothing else can…

‘I’m grateful to be part of this half-time show, and even more grateful knowing it’s already helping expand access to education for children around the world.’

FIFA chief Gianni Infantino has also said it will be ‘definitely the biggest stage ever’, with ‘a couple of billion’ expected to tune in.

Fans have repeatedly expressed their opposition to the half-time show, with countless social media users voicing their displeasure online.

One X user wrote: ‘Not needed at all, stop Americanising football. There will never be a half-time show again at a World Cup. It’s not needed or wanted by the vast majority of fans.’

Another shared: ‘F*** off with this s**t, no one outside the US gives a s**t about half-time shows or hydration/ad breaks. Worst World Cup hosts ever.’

A third added: ‘The Americanisation has to stop.’

Yet another declared: ‘Can’t wait for the Premier League return so I don’t have to watch hydration breaks and half-time f***ing shows.’
