Singer Jake Carter has told how he would ‘struggle’ to make ends meet if he solely relied on making money from music.

The younger brother of Wagon Wheel hitmaker Nathan Carter has been a singer for around a decade, writing songs since he was 16.

Jake officially kicked off his music career and began gigging with his band in April 2017, which was around the time he relocated from Liverpool to Ireland to pursue pop music.

But Jake said if he didn’t have his music school, Jake Carter School of Music, in Bluebell, Dublin, and the Jake and Karen Stage School that he co-founded with his fiancée and Dancing With The Stars judge Karen Byrne, he wouldn’t be able to make ends meet.

He said: ‘I’ve been lucky in a sense that I have been able to adapt to different things without the industry. I started, even before I moved over to Ireland, I was gigging in pubs and clubs. Wherever there was money to be made, I was there.

‘Over the last number of years, I’ve been very lucky with different theatre opportunities, and then I went into different stage productions. Now myself and Karen have the stage school, and I have the music school in Dublin.

‘I think if I didn’t have them other things to complement the music, it definitely would be difficult to make a living, especially living in Dublin.’

And the 27-year-old Liverpudlian star – whose new single All That I Need Is You is out this week – admitted he has no ‘big source of money’ coming from any huge hit yet.

‘I haven’t had that huge hit yet, so there is no big source of money coming in from the actual music as of yet, but hopefully it’ll come one day. But I have been very fortunate,’ he added.

Jake was speaking at the launch of Breast Cancer Ireland’s 2026 Very Pink Run, which will see three large-scale live events take place across Dublin, Kilkenny and Cork between August 29 and September 6.

Alongside the 5k & 10k run and walk routes, guests can enjoy live music, children’s entertainment, family games and a range of festival-style food trucks, promising a fun-filled, uplifting atmosphere from start to finish.
