Munster and Ireland rugby star Calvin Nash has proposed to his long-term girlfriend, Ciara O’Brien.
The couple are enjoying a few days away on the Greek island of Santorini when the 28-year-old decided to pop the question on Friday.
The pair uploaded a video on their social media on the romantic proposal. The black and white clip shows Calvin reaching into his pocket to produce a small box, prompting a shocked Ciara to cup her face with her hands in disbelief and joy.
After an emotional embrace, Calvin slipped the ring onto his fiancée’s finger before the couple sealed the proposal with a kiss.
The Munster and Ireland wing chose a balcony overlooking a spectacular sea view as the backdrop for the romantic moment.
Calvin has been in a relationship with Ciara, a marketing and operations administrator at Unijobs, for several years.
Calvin made things Instagram official in April 2021 but Ciara first shared a snap of the couple in December 2020.
They celebrated their first anniversary in October 2021 so have now been dating for almost five years.
Speaking about his first Christmas living with Ciara, Calvin previously told RSVP magazine: ‘I got a dog recently, so his first Christmas was cool. It was my first Christmas living with my girlfriend as well. That was really nice and it was completely new to me.
‘I used to hate putting up the Christmas tree and all the decorations, but because it’s my house, I feel like it’s nicer. You’re not forced to put it up, you want to put it up.
‘I enjoyed doing it because it got some ambiance going. Doing that together was nice too, it was quality time with each other,’ Calvin added.
Speaking previously to EVOKE, Calvin praised Ciara as his ‘rock’, saying she is always there for him no matter the result on the rugby pitch.
‘I’d say my girlfriend struggles sometimes with me complaining or giving out to her but she’s a rock for me and my family are massive as well. I’ll always be chatting to my brothers and it’s unreal to have them in my life. They help a lot,’ he said.
‘When they’re there with you [after the big wins], it’s even more special. My debut in the Six Nations, my brothers, my dad, and my girlfriend all came over to France.’
