Gillian Anderson has been talking about her sexuality and in an interview with an Australian publication has come out as pansexual, just weeks after revealing she once had a ‘secretive’ relationship with an older girl during her school years.

Speaking to The Australian, the 58‑year‑old actress said that in her younger years she had relationships with women, and that hearing other women’s experiences has shaped how she understands her own sexuality today.

Pansexuality is a sexual orientation where someone is attracted to all people regardless of sex or gender identity, and Gillian explained that while she isn’t a natural flirt, she’s noticed many women her age rediscovering their sensuality and desire.

She said she hears stories of women dating again, enjoying themselves, and being approached by much younger men on apps.

Gillian is a mother of three: daughter Piper, 31, with ex‑husband Clyde Klotz, and sons Oscar, 19, and Felix, 17, with former partner Mark Griffiths.

She has previously spoken about having relationships with women and has long said gender is irrelevant when she connects with someone.

In a recent interview with The Sunday Times, she reflected on her first relationship with a girl after moving to the US at age 11.

She described it as feeling ‘secretive and illicit and wrong,’ and said a boyfriend later broke up with her when he found out. She didn’t think of herself as gay at the time because she had also dated boys, but she admitted she didn’t have the language to describe her feelings.

The actress is currently dating the creator of The Crown Peter Morgan.
