Mrs Brown’s Boys star Gary Hollywood is to stand trial accused of drink driving, after allegedly being caught more than five times over the legal alcohol limit.

The 47-year-old actor allegedly committed the offence in Bellahouston, Glasgow, on October 26, 2025. He is best known for playing Dino Doyle in the beloved BAFTA-winning show between 2004 and 2020.

Hollywood, of Cathcart, Glasgow, is accused of being behind the wheel of a silver Land Rover with 115 microgrammes of alcohol in 100millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 22 microgrammes. He denied the single charge at Glasgow Sheriff Court. A hearing was administratively adjourned to trial towards the end of the month.

Earlier this year, Hollywood revealed he felt betrayed by star Brendan O’Carroll when their 20-year partnership ended. Hollywood said O’Carroll had become a surrogate father after inviting him to join the cast.

He said: ‘I thought the world of him and his family, who welcomed me with open arms. He told me about Mrs Brown and asked me to join the cast. I was delighted.’

Hollywood played Dino, the boyfriend of Mrs Brown’s hairdresser son Rory. He said their partnership eventually broke down over a dispute about how many episodes he had made.

Hollywood said: ‘No matter how we parted, Brendan deserved his win and the riches that came with it. I look back on those years with great affection. I loved playing the arenas and meeting thousands of fans who loved the show. But when the end came, I did feel betrayed.

‘After 20 years together, Brendan wished me well by text, and that was it.’

The show attracted 11million viewers in the UK at its peak, although viewing figures have since dropped to 1.5million. Hollywood has since moved into a very different career as a funeral celebrant, helping families say goodbye to loved ones.

He said: ‘After decades of acting, the red carpets, rubbing shoulders with stars and the honour of winning a BAFTA, I’ve discovered a new peace helping families discover the profound love that remains even in death.

‘I doubt I could get further away from showbusiness, but I am more content than I’ve ever been,’ he said.

Hollywood added the deaths of his brother Gerard, 50, and father John, 77, followed by a miscarriage, all within a few months three years ago, led him to an epiphany.

He said: ‘Those unexpected deaths so close together led to dark times, but it also taught me that love arms you with resilience. In this job there are hard moments when I have to support families who have lost children, that is always the hardest, but I’ve learned how important every life is, especially those that are short and how they touch each of us.’
