Commemoration of the Dominican Order Arrival in Waterford – Sunday August 16th

The Diocese of Waterford & Lismore has arranged to hold a reenactment of the Black Friars March which originally took place on Sunday 16th August 1926 to commemorate the 700th anniversary of the Dominican Order arrival in Waterford.
The Programme includes Mass at 12pm in the Cathedral of the Most Holy Trinity, assembly from 1pm in the vicinity of the Mural, short opening address at 1.30pm at the Cathedral and then process down George’s Street and O’Connell Street to St Saviour’s Church at Bridge Street.
There will then be a short liturgical aspect inside St Saviour’s Church and followed by a historical talk centred on the Our Lady of Waterford statue, the Black Friars March and the history of St Saviour’s Church marking a significant anniversary later this year.
