Meet the owls, get up close with live birds of prey, Falkoner Willie will bring along some friends to talk about Ireland’s big birds. Did you know that we have a wild sparrowhawks, buzzards and a peregrine falcon in Clonea?
Mens shed bird box building demonstration
They will have a bird box building demonstration from Carrick-on-suir mens shed. Where you will learn the best bird box to build and how to place it in your garden.
Paul carroll from the freshwater pearl mussel project
The Clodiagh is one of the last rivers in the east of the county to have the red listed freshwater pearl mussel. They are capable of living up to 140 years of age, making them Ireland’s longest living animal. There are approximately 50 mussels left in the river Clodiagh. These animals are filter feeders and help keep the river clean. Paul is leading a mussel breeding program in Waterford that is aiming to maintain the population in the area and will share his work.
Art workshop – solar printing
Cúan Cusack, is an artist and designer based in Waterford, they will lead a solar printing workshop that utilises the power of the sun to create cameraless photographs also known as photograms. This drop in workshop uses natural materials to create one of a kind prints to remind you of the beauty of nature. All materials will be supplied.
Dr. Catherine keena, biodiversity talk
Dr. Catherine Keena, a farm biodiversity specialist with Teagasc. Catherine will explain what biodiversity is, where it is and which species are more important. Learn about native species of plants and animals that are in the village and the wildlife habitats in which they exist, such as hedges, grass margins, water courses and woodland.
