Efforts are continuing tonight to bring the major fire in Waterford City under control.

Fire brigades from Waterford City Fire Service, Tramore, Dunmore East, Portlaw and Dungarvan are currently tending to the large fire at a commercial premises in Tycor.

The public is advised to avoid the area around the old Jute Factory and residents are also advised to keep windows closed. This is due to concerns over the potential spread of asbestos.

Some local residents have been evacuated and there are traffic restrictions in place.

Electricity and gas has been turned off in numerous surrounding homes.

Huge flames are visible across Waterford City and the surrounding areas.

There are no reports of any injuries but local business owners have expressed concern over potential damage to surrounding units.
