Troy Parrott’s summer transfer saga continues, as it appears West Ham are making a big play to sign the Dubliner.

Parrott is all but confirmed to be leaving Dutch side AZ this summer after a successful season last time out, in which he scored 16 Eredivisie goals as the side won the Dutch Cup and qualified for the Europa League.

He’s been in high demand over the past year, with the likes of AC Milan, Ajax and even Tottenham being linked with him over the course of 2026.

However, it looks like the now-Championship West Ham United want to make Parrott their new starting striker in a move that will break the record for the most expensive Championship transfer of all time.

Talksport’s Chief Football Correspondent Alex Crook confirmed several rumours that surfaced over the weekend that the Hammers were in for Troy Parrott, posting that the London side are ‘making a big play’ for the Irish star in a move that will be worth €35million.

West Ham are in the second tier for the first time since 2012 after a chaotic few seasons following the departure of Declan Rice.

That was on top of a revolving door of managers, leaving them in the grave position of suffering relegation on the final day of the season, with London rivals Tottenham surviving in their place.

Spurs also have a 20% sell-on clause with AZ, meaning they could be line in to pocket around €7million from a Parrott transfer.

Since their relegation, there’s been even more change at the club as David Sullivan has been ousted as chairman, while former Newcastle United minority shareholder Amanda Staveley has made an attempt to purchase up to 25% of the club, reportedly promising to buy the London Stadium as well.

And while the likes of Matheus Fernandes, Crysencio Summerville and Adama Traoré have all left the club, Jarrod Bowen signed a new deal to stay on in the Championship as they look to bounce straight back up to the Premier League.

However, West Ham has been described as a ‘graveyard’ for strikers over the past decade, with it even being described as a curse, as since Sullivan and David Gold bought the club in 2010, they have bought over 50 strikers, with none of them having any real success.

A move to the Championship will certainly be a bit of a let-down for Irish fans considering the calibre of clubs, several of which are in the Champions League next season, that have been linked to Troy Parrott.

‘If true, I can’t be arsed anymore. Be the most underwhelming Irish transfer of all time. No offence to West Ham, but Christ almighty. Troy can do so much better than the Championship. One injury early on, like last season, he’ll get stuck in England 2nd div again…’ one account posted on X.

‘Avoid them like the plague mate,’ posted another.
