Peter Queally has named a strong and experienced starting fifteen for their Munster Senior Hurling Championship Round One clash with Clare GAA this Sunday in Ennis.
Throw-in at Páirc Chíosóg is set for 2 pm, with plenty of anticipation surrounding the opening weekend of the Munster Championship.
Managed by Peter Queally, the team shows a solid spine throughout. Billy Nolan starts in goal, with a full-back line of Ian Kenny, captain Mark Fitzgerald, and Aaron O’Neill lining out in front of him. That unit will have a key role in containing Clare’s inside forwards.
Across the half-back line, Calum Lyons, Paddy Leavey, and Shane Bennett bring energy, pace, and the ability to break forward, something that has become a hallmark of Waterford’s play.
In midfield, Darragh Lyons partners Jack Prendergast, with both players expected to cover serious ground and compete physically in what is always a crucial area.
Up front, Waterford have plenty of scoring threats. Jack Fagan, Stephen Bennett, and Jamie Barron make up the half-forward line, combining work rate with scoring ability. Inside them, Dessie Hutchinson, Sean Walsh, and Michael Kiely offer a mix of movement, pace, and finishing.

There are also strong options on the bench, with a lot of experience ready to come into action,
An away trip to face Clare GAA is a serious test to open the campaign, and this fixture should provide an early gauge of Waterford’s championship credentials.
Munster remains one of the most competitive arenas in hurling, and a positive result in Ennis would be a significant boost as Waterford starts the season.
