Waterford minor camogie manager Kevin Barry is looking ahead to a major occasion for his side as they prepare to face Wexford in the Minor A All-Ireland Shield Final this Sunday at UPMC Nowlan Park.

Throw-in is set for 12 pm, with both counties arriving in Kilkenny, aiming to cap off a strong season with silverware.

“It’s a great day for Waterford camogie.”

Speaking ahead of the final, Kevin praised the progress being made within the county setup and the growing consistency of reaching big championship occasions.

“Yeah, a great day. Anytime we get to an All-Ireland final, it’s big for Waterford camogie,” he said.

“It’s on the trajectory we’re on now. We’re getting used to contesting finals, and hopefully that continues. It’s great for the county.”

Club spread a key strength for Waterford

One of the most encouraging aspects of the current minor panel, according to Kevin, is the wide range of clubs represented across the county.

He believes this reflects the growing strength of underage development structures in Waterford.

“That’s a sign of the work being done by the clubs across the board. Traditionally, you’d have had the big clubs like De La Salle, Gailltír and St Anne’s leading the way, and they still are.”

“But now we’re getting players from all over the county. It shows the great work being done at the underage level.”

Wexford: A traditional challenge

Looking ahead to Sunday’s final, Kevin expects a typical fierce challenge from a proud camogie county.

“Typical Wexford. I’ve been involved in underage camogie in Waterford for 13 or 14 years and I’ve yet to meet a Wexford team that didn’t go out and fight for their crest.”

“They’re a proud camogie county, and we expect nothing less.”

Final ahead at UPMC Nowlan Park

With both sides arriving in strong form, the stage is set at UPMC Nowlan Park for what promises to be a competitive and emotional encounter in the Minor A Shield Final.

Waterford will be hoping to continue their upward trajectory, while Wexford aim to bring their trademark intensity to the contest in pursuit of silverware.
