Waterford Hockey Club’s Women’s 1s drew 1–1 with a strong Ashton side in Round 2 of the Munster Division 1 League at Newtown.

Waterford created plenty of opportunities throughout the game but were unable to convert their chances. Ashton took the lead, but Waterford responded through Michaela Jones, who converted from a penalty corner to bring the sides level.

Both teams continued to battle until the final whistle, with the points shared.

There was also a fantastic start to the league campaign for Waterford Women’s 2s, who recorded an impressive 6–0 away win to move to the top of the table.

Hannah Duffy, Desponsia McCartan and Grace Finnegan were all on the scoresheet, with McCartan scoring twice and Finnegan completing a hat-trick.

Next weekend, the Women’s 1s travel to Bandon as they look to build further momentum in Division 1.

The Waterford Men’s 1s are also back in league action, with Catholic Institute providing the opposition at Newtown. That game gets underway at 12pm.
