Waterford GAA has launched its third Winner House draw, with funds raised set to support the next phase of the redevelopment of Azzurri Walsh Park.

The launch took place at a special event in the Lawlor’s Hotel, Dungarvan, where county chairman Neil Moore, county treasurer Kieran Geary and Walsh Park Redevelopment Committee chairman Paudie Coffey outlined the plans for the project.

Phase two of the Walsh Park redevelopment is expected to move to contract this month, with a Waterford-based contractor having been selected following a public tender process. Work is expected to begin on site in the coming weeks.

The second phase is a major undertaking, with a total cost of more than €16.2 million. Government funding of over €5.2 million has been secured, alongside a further €5.2 million through the Immigrant Investor Programme.

Waterford GAA is aiming to raise approximately five per cent of the overall cost through the house draw.

County chairman Neil Moore says the previous two draws were successful and is hopeful the latest campaign will help bring the redevelopment closer to completion.

He says the first phase has already provided Waterford with a stadium to be proud of, allowing the county to host Munster Championship games at Walsh Park.

Paudie Coffey, who chairs the redevelopment committee, says the project has the potential to bring significant benefits to Waterford City and County, beyond the GAA community.

He also highlighted the work of the redevelopment committee and the support received from government and GAA authorities.

County treasurer Kieran Geary says the draw is an important contribution towards delivering a modern stadium for future generations. He also pointed to the benefits for local clubs, which will receive a return from ticket sales.

Tickets will be available through Waterford GAA clubs from next week, with 50 club coordinators helping to promote the draw.

Tickets are priced at €50 for one, €80 for two, or €100 for three. The draw will also include smaller prizes throughout the year, alongside the main house prize.
