Exactly a year to the day after the Blues picked up their first win in Galway for 18 years they picked up another vital point with their third clean sheet of the season to keep the resurgence going as Waterford FC secured a share of the spoils with the Tribesmen.

They had to endure a little early pressure as Galway adapted to the difficult pitch quickly and an Aaron Bolger shot on eight minutes was cleared off the line by Hayden Cann. But the Blues settled and forced a slew of corners and a Conan Noonan shot flew over on 14 minutes before a John Mahon shot was deflected onto the crossbar a minute later.

Will Johnson had another great effort on the half hour as he hit a thirty yard effort that flashed over the bar and Jordan Houston went close seven minutes before the break when a Benny Couto cross was touched on Lonergan for the Scot but his effort also went over the crossbar.

The Blues started the second half with renewed vigour as Noonan skimmed the bar with an effort within sixty seconds of the restart and a minute later a quick throw in sent Lonergan away but he scuffed his shot on goal.

Galway were defending with strength and their best effort of the game came nine minutes from time when substitute Francely Lomboto flashed a shot across the Blues goal. They did enjoy a few late free kicks but the Blues defence were solid throughout and they held on for a dsereved draw.
