
Cup football took centre stage across the Waterford Junior League over the past week, with Villa and Portlaw booking their places in the Jimmy Searson Premier Cup Final following impressive semi-final victories.
Villa secured a comfortable 3-0 win over Ballinroad on Saturday before Portlaw edged out Tramore AFC 2-1 on Sunday to set up an eagerly anticipated final between the two sides.
In the Sheridan’s First Division Cup, Seaview Celtic, Ferrybank 1A, Tycor and Southend all progressed from the quarter-finals. Seaview defeated Carrick 3-0, Ferrybank 1A overcame Southend 1B 2-0, Tycor advanced after a dramatic penalty shootout following a 2-2 draw with Tramore Rangers, while Southend claimed an impressive 5-1 victory over Piltown.
League action also produced several eye-catching results. Hibernians recorded the biggest win of the week with a 9-0 victory over Bohemians in the Azzurri Premier League, while Villa continued their fine form with a 3-0 away win at Portlaw.
In Division 2A, Red Star edged Park Rangers 4-3, Carrick defeated Waterford Crystal 2-0, and Portlaw claimed a 2-1 win away to Dunmore East.
There were goals galore in Division 2B as Dungarvan hammered Stradbally 11-1, Kilbarry Rangers beat Piltown 5-1, and Crusaders defeated Abbeyside 3-0, while St. Saviours rounded off the weekend with a 3-0 victory over Lismore.
At underage level, Villa ran out 11-1 winners over Piltown in the Under-17A League, while Tramore defeated Bohemians 4-1. In the Youth leagues, Tramore overcame Portlaw 3-1, Ballinroad and Southend shared an entertaining 4-4 draw, De La Salle defeated Lismore 3-0, and Ferrybank edged Dunmore 3-2. St. Saviours and Tramore also played out a remarkable 7-7 draw in one of the highest-scoring games of the season.
