More than 100 women from across Waterford will gather in Tramore this Saturday for a special Mothers and Others Gaelic Football Blitz, with a day of football, family fun and community spirit planned at Tramore GAA Club.

The event gets underway at 12.30 pm on Saturday, July 11, with 10 teams taking part in what promises to be one of the biggest Mothers and Others gatherings held in the county.

Speaking to WLR Sport, Tramore Mothers and Others team member Dawn Roberts said the blitz is about much more than football.

“It’s a fantastic social outlet as well as a sporting one. We’ve made great friendships through the team, and it’s open to women of all backgrounds. Whether you’re a mother or simply fall into the ‘others’ category like myself, everyone is welcome.”

The Mothers and Others initiative continues to grow in popularity across the country, offering women the chance to enjoy Gaelic football in a fun, welcoming and inclusive environment. Roberts said participation has increased significantly in recent years, with clubs across Waterford now fielding multiple teams.

The blitz will feature more than just football, with face painting, a raffle, a mini car boot sale, music and refreshments all planned throughout the afternoon. Tramore GAA Club’s café will also be open, making it an ideal family day out.

The event also forms part of the club’s fundraising efforts ahead of a special trip to New York in October. Tramore has been selected to represent Waterford at the Gaelic for Mothers and Others Festival, with only one team chosen from each county to travel.

Roberts described the opportunity as a huge honour and said proceeds from Saturday’s blitz will help fund the team’s trip.

“It’s a fantastic opportunity for the group, and we’re very proud to be representing Waterford. We’d love to see plenty of people come along on Saturday, enjoy the day and support the team.”

The blitz begins at 12.30 pm in Tramore GAA Club, with spectators welcome throughout the afternoon.
