Waterford FC striker Tommy Lonergan has been named in Jim Crawford’s Ireland Under-21 squad for the upcoming UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualifiers.
Ireland face a busy run of fixtures, with Slovakia away on September 25, before Kazakhstan visit Cork on September 29. England will then provide the opposition at Turners Cross on October 6.
Lonergan has earned his place in the squad after an impressive season with Waterford FC. He is currently the league’s top scorer and was named the SSE Airtricity Soccer Writers Ireland Player of the Month for July.
He is one of three League of Ireland players included, alongside Shamrock Rovers duo Adam Brennan and Michael Noonan.
Former Waterford FC player Romeo Akachukwu, who is now with Southampton, has also been included in the squad.
