Thundering On produced a stunning late surge to capture the Betfred Oaks at Epsom, delivering a standout performance for trainer Joseph O’Brien and jockey Dylan Browne McMonagle.

The well-backed 5-1 contender was settled towards the rear of the field during the early stages, with McMonagle content to bide his time as the runners made their way around the demanding Epsom course.

As the race entered the home straight, Thundering On began to make smooth progress through the pack. Travelling strongly, the daughter of Frankel quickly emerged as a serious threat while several of her rivals struggled to maintain their challenge.

Drawing level with the leaders inside the final furlong, Thundering On accelerated clear when asked for her effort, powering away to secure victory by three and three-quarter lengths.

Legacy Link, trained by John and Thady Gosden, filled the runner-up spot, but there was no matching the finishing speed of the winner, who stamped her class on the Classic with a dominant display.

The victory marks another major success for Joseph O’Brien and adds a prestigious Oaks title to the filly’s growing record.
