Waterford GAA has announced Stephen Molumphy as its proposed new Senior Hurling Manager.

The appointment, which is for a three-year term, was agreed at a meeting of Coiste Bainistí on Wednesday evening and will now go before the next meeting of the Waterford County Board for formal ratification.

If approved, the Ballyduff Upper clubman will take charge of the Déise senior hurlers ahead of the 2027 inter-county season.

Molumphy enjoyed an outstanding playing career with Waterford between 2006 and 2014, making 31 championship appearances and scoring 3-26. During that time, he helped the county win two Munster Senior Hurling Championship titles and the 2007 National Hurling League, while also earning an All-Star award.

At club level, the former left half-forward has been a key figure with Ballyduff Upper, winning a Waterford Senior Hurling Championship title along with two Intermediate A county championships.

Waterford GAA says it extends its best wishes to Stephen and wishes him every success in his new role as he prepares to lead the county over the next three seasons, subject to ratification by delegates.

The appointment marks the beginning of a new era for the Déise as they look to build on recent seasons and challenge for provincial and national honours under one of Waterford’s most respected hurling figures.
