There was plenty of drama across the Waterford club hurling championships on Saturday, with finals decided, semi-final places secured and Ballysaggart suffering relegation from the Premier Intermediate grade.

Roanmore are Eastern Intermediate champions after overcoming St Mollerans 3-14 to 0-18 in the Gerry Kennedy Crash Repairs Eastern Intermediate Hurling Championship final.

The victory sees Roanmore claim the Eastern title after an impressive campaign, while St Mollerans will now have to regroup following their final defeat.

In the JJ Kavanagh & Sons Waterford Senior Hurling Championship, Ballygunner booked their place in the semi-finals after seeing off a determined Lismore side 1-19 to 1-11 at Cappoquin Logistics Fraher Field.

Lismore stayed competitive for long periods, but Ballygunner eventually pulled clear. Pauric Mahony made his impact felt after coming off the bench, scoring six placed balls to help guide the defending champions into the last four.

Fourmilewater also secured their semi-final place with a 0-26 to 1-16 victory over Passage.

Sean Walsh and Aaron Ryan caused plenty of problems for the Passage defence in attack, while Tom Barron and Pat Walsh were excellent at the back as Fourmilewater produced a strong all-round performance to advance.

There was a major story in the Cappoquin Logistics Premier Intermediate Hurling Championship, where Clashmore/Kinsalebeg reached the final after defeating Portlaw 0-23 to 1-13.

It was Portlaw’s first defeat of the championship, but it came at the worst possible time as Clashmore/Kinsalebeg used all of their inter-county experience to good effect. They now move into the Premier Intermediate final with their sights firmly set on claiming the title.

Earlier, Tallow produced a dominant display to defeat Ballysaggart 1-32 to 0-12. The result has major consequences for Ballysaggart, who will be relegated to the Intermediate Championship for next season.

In the Comeragh Oil Western Intermediate Hurling Championship, Sliabh gCua/St Mary’s defeated Kilrossanty 2-22 to 3-12 in their semi-final, while Ballyduff Upper were impressive winners over Colligan Emmetts, running out 4-24 to 0-15.

With several finals and semi-final places now decided, the Waterford club hurling championships are reaching a crucial stage, with plenty still to play for as teams chase county honours and promotion.
