Cristiano Ronaldo’s final game for Portugal looks to be set as the 41-year-old is set to bow out from the international game.

The ex-Real Madrid and Manchester United forward was a part of Portugal’s 2026 World Cup campaign, controversially starting all the games as Portugal bowed out at the Round of 16 to Spain due to a late Mikel Merino winner.

Ronaldo hinted post-match that it was his last World Cup, with the star player being 45 by the time the next tournament comes around, which Portugal are hosting alongside Spain and Morocco.

And now it looks like the date of his final match for his country has been revealed, with journalist Mohamad Awaad reporting that a Portuguese journalist revealed to him that Ronaldo’s final cap for his country will come on September 24 in Lisbon.

‘He will play against Wales in the UEFA Nations League; the match will be at the Sporting Lisbon stadium, the Estadio Jose Alvalade,’ Awaad reported.

To date, Cristiano Ronaldo has played 233 times for his country, scoring 146 goals, completing almost everything there is to do in the sport except win the World Cup. The last accolade the striker is chasing down is to score his 1000th career goal, sitting currently on 976 official goals.

Despite his record and his standing in the game, many pundits felt Ronaldo’s time in the Portuguese team should’ve ended a long time ago, but it looks like new Portugal manager Jorge Jesus, who recently won the Saudi Pro League with Ronaldo at Al Nassr, is willing to give the legend a shot.

‘People might think that the new manager is going to come in and change a lot of players. That won’t happen. I’m not stupid. On top of that, I don’t have enough time to bring in several players who weren’t called up this time.’

The match is set to take place during the same UEFA Nations League window that Ireland are set to face Israel.
