Portlaw United FC have officially renamed their home grounds in honour of long-serving club chairperson John Corcoran.

The grounds, formerly known as the Paddock, will now be known as John Corcoran Park, The Paddock.

A crowd of at least 200 people gathered in Portlaw on Sunday afternoon for the special occasion, with the event taking place in bright sunshine.

The official unveiling was carried out by Waterford football legend Alfie Hale, who is a cousin of John.

John and a number of others addressed the gathering, with John expressing his gratitude for the event and the honour bestowed upon him.

Still serving as Portlaw United chairperson, John is regarded as one of the longest-serving sports club chairpersons in the country.

He spoke to WLR earlier in the week, sharing some wonderful stories from his time involved with the club.
