Shamrock Rovers star Pico Lopes and his wife Leah have swapped the World Cup spotlight for a luxury lakeside getaway after returning home to Ireland.

The Cape Verde international, who won plenty of Irish support during the World Cup, recently enjoyed a relaxing stay at Wineport Lodge in Co Westmeath with Leah and their baby son, Diego.

Leah gave followers a glimpse into the family’s staycation on Instagram, sharing snaps of the stunning scenery, delicious food and luxury spa facilities.

The couple made the most of the retreat, unwinding in the floating hot tubs, enjoying the lakeside sauna and taking in the peaceful surroundings.

They also enjoyed a pre-dinner cruise before sitting down for an evening meal overlooking Lough Ree.

Wineport Lodge also shared photos from the visit, revealing the footballer and his family were enjoying some well-earned downtime after a hectic few months.

‘It was a pleasure to have @pico_lopes & Leah stay with us for some well-deserved rest after the World Cup,’ the hotel wrote.

‘After a busy few months on and off the pitch, it was great to see them enjoy some time to relax. Congratulations again on the arrival of baby Diego, and wishing them all the very best!’

Lopes returned to Ireland earlier this month following Cape Verde’s historic World Cup campaign.

The Shamrock Rovers defender received a hero’s welcome at Dublin Airport, where he was greeted by Leah, baby Diego and his proud parents, Judy and Carlos.
