Munster will be hoping to make home advantage count when they welcome the Sharks to Thomond Park this evening in the United Rugby Championship.
The province has endured a difficult start to its league campaign, recording just one victory and a draw so far, leaving them ninth in the standings.
Munster head into the contest looking to bounce back from a 24-18 defeat to Leinster, having previously secured a 33-25 victory over Racing 92 in the Champions Cup.
However, they face a Sharks outfit that has enjoyed a strong run of form in recent weeks.
The South African side arrives in Limerick following consecutive victories on European soil, including a 36-21 bonus-point win over Cardiff last weekend.
The Sharks currently sit fifth in the URC table, with three victories from their opening four matches.
Recent meetings between the sides have also favoured the visitors, who have won their last three encounters with Munster.
Their most recent clash ended in a comprehensive 45-0 victory for the Sharks in Durban.
Despite that record, Thomond Park has proved a difficult venue for the South African side, who have lost both of their previous away meetings with Munster.
Sharks prop Thomas du Toit, who previously spent time on loan with Munster, has acknowledged the challenge of facing the province in front of its home supporters.
The visitors will also have to contend with injury concerns following their victory over Cardiff, with captain André Esterhuizen among four players who sustained injuries.
For Munster, Today’s encounter presents an opportunity to improve their league position and build momentum ahead of the November international break.
A victory would also provide a timely response to their recent defeat against Leinster, while ending the Sharks’ run of success in this fixture.
