Waterford City and County Council today hosted a special mayoral reception to honour the outstanding achievements of local golf star Anna Dawson, recognising her rise to the top tier of Irish amateur golf.
Held in a warm and celebratory atmosphere, the event brought together Anna’s family, friends, and representatives from Tramore Golf Club, where her journey in the sport first began. Among those in attendance were club officials, including President Roger Kennedy, Lady Captain Eimear O’Kane, and Lady President Marie Grubb, reflecting the deep connection between Anna and her home club.

Anna’s story is one rooted in dedication and steady progression. Having joined Tramore Golf Club at just nine years of age, what began as a childhood interest quickly evolved into a lifelong pursuit. Over the years, she has developed her game with remarkable consistency, building a reputation as one of Ireland’s most promising golfers.
Her achievements speak for themselves. Anna has represented Ireland across multiple age grades, claimed provincial honours, and in 2025 secured one of the most prestigious titles in Irish amateur golf — the Irish Ladies Close Championship. Her success has extended beyond Irish shores, with an impressive spell in the United States where she balanced academic commitments with elite competition, adding further titles to her name.
Earlier this year, her excellence was recognised on home soil when she was named the overall winner at the Waterford Sports Awards 2025. The accolade highlights not only her results but also her consistency, work ethic, and the high regard in which she is held within the sporting community.
The awards ceremony, held at the Granville Hotel, saw Waterford’s leading athletes gather to celebrate a year of sporting success, with Anna taking top honours on a memorable night.
Speaking at the reception, Anna was praised for her quiet determination and the strong support network behind her, including her family, coaches, and club. Alongside her sporting commitments, she continues to invest in her future and is currently pursuing a Master’s degree at Maynooth University.
The mayoral reception served as a moment for the local authority to acknowledge the impact of her achievements, not just in terms of results, but as an example of excellence representing Waterford on a wider stage.

With so much already accomplished, there is a strong sense that Anna Dawson’s journey is only just beginning. Her success continues to inspire, and she carries with her the pride and support of her local community as she looks to the future.
