Joe Ward produced one of the performances of his professional career on Saturday night as he made his highly anticipated Zuffa Boxing debut at Dublin’s 3Arena.

The Moate man was handed a major test on the Zuffa Boxing 10 card, facing a world-class unbeaten opponent, but Ward rose to the occasion with an impressive performance to secure a hard-fought victory.

His display was subsequently recognised with the Fight of the Night award from Dana White, underlining the quality and excitement of Ward’s performance on one of the biggest stages of his career.

Seven years into his professional journey, Ward is finally receiving the wider recognition that his talent and achievements deserve.

The 32-year-old showcased his technical ability, composure and experience throughout the contest, while his determination was evident against an opponent who arrived in Dublin with an unbeaten record.

There is also a strong Waterford connection behind Ward’s continued development.

He is trained in Waterford by Jimmy Payne out of Peak Boxing Academy, while his strength and conditioning work is carried out with David Payne at Peak Fitness Waterford.

For Ward, Saturday night’s victory represents the reward for years of hard work, sacrifice and perseverance.

He now has 13 professional victories to his name, with eight of those wins coming by way of knockout.

The Zuffa Boxing debut and Fight of the Night award could mark the beginning of a new chapter in Ward’s career, with the Moate boxer finally getting the attention his performances have long warranted.
