The Republic of Ireland Under-21s will face Finland in a two-legged play-off as they look to secure qualification for next summer’s European Under-21 Championship finals in Albania and Serbia.

Waterford striker Tommy Lonergan will spearhead the Irish challenge after helping the side reach the play-offs with an impressive run of form in the most recent international window.

Ireland won all three of their games during that period, with Lonergan scoring four goals across the three matches.

The draw was made in Nyon this morning, with Ireland set to travel to Finland for the first leg before hosting the Finns in the return fixture.

The two matches are scheduled to take place during the final international window of the season, between November 12th and 17th.

Ireland will now look to Lonergan and his teammates to take the final step towards securing a place at next summer’s tournament.
