Leah Grant and Luca Corrieri were crowned the first female and first male home, respectively, at the 2026 Beat the Ferryman open water swim in Passage East on Saturday.
Grant, representing Tramore Sharks, produced an outstanding swim to take the women’s honours, while Corrieri of New Ross Swimming Club claimed victory in the men’s event after a strong performance across the River Suir.
The annual event once again drew swimmers from across the country to Passage East for one of Ireland’s most distinctive open-water challenges.
Beat the Ferryman is the only interprovincial open water swim in Ireland, with competitors completing the 600-metre crossing from Leinster to Munster, swimming across the River Suir before finishing in Passage East.
The event has become a highlight of the summer sporting calendar in Waterford, drawing experienced open water swimmers alongside those taking on the unique challenge for the first time.
Congratulations go to Leah Grant and Luca Corrieri on their impressive victories, as well as to the organisers, volunteers and all those who took part in another successful edition of Beat the Ferryman.
