Fourmilewater have reached their first-ever Waterford Senior Hurling Championship final after a dramatic 2-16 to 17-point victory over Roanmore at a packed Cappoquin Logistics Fraher Field.

In a thrilling contest that went right down to the wire, Fourmilewater produced a sensational finish to secure their place in next weekend’s county final, where they will face Ballygunner.

Roanmore led for much of the opening half and looked in control as Gavin O’Brien continued his outstanding form from placed balls and play.

O’Brien was instrumental for the Sky Blues throughout the afternoon, scoring eight points in the first half as Roanmore went into the break leading by 0-12 to 1-6.

Fourmilewater, however, stayed in touch despite facing the strong breeze and began to turn the momentum in their favour after half-time.

Aaron Ryan’s accuracy from frees helped keep Fourmilewater in contention before Dermot Ryan produced a crucial score to put his side in front.

Jamie Barron then showed his leadership qualities with a superb point to extend the Fourmilewater advantage as the contest entered its closing stages.

With the clock ticking into injury time, Roanmore were still pushing for an equaliser.

Then came the decisive moment.

Liam O’Brien found the back of the net for Fourmilewater with a low finish in the 63rd minute, sending the Fourmilewater supporters into wild celebrations and putting their side firmly in control.

Roanmore refused to give up, but Fourmilewater held their nerve.

Chris Ryan then produced another outstanding score late on to seal the victory and send Fourmilewater into their first-ever Waterford Senior Hurling Championship final.

The final whistle sparked remarkable scenes at Fraher Field, with Fourmilewater players, management and supporters celebrating a historic achievement.

The result means Fourmilewater will now face Ballygunner in next weekend’s Waterford Senior Hurling Championship final, with a first county senior title within touching distance.

For Fourmilewater, it will be a day that goes down in the club’s history.
