Fourmilewater will look to continue their unbeaten run when they take on Passage in the second quarter-final of the 2026 JJ Kavanagh & Sons Waterford Club Senior Hurling Championship this Saturday evening.
The sides meet at 7.15 pm on Saturday, August 15, at Cappaquinn Logistics Fraher Field, Dungarvan, with Fourmilewater going into the game as one of the form teams in the championship.
Fourmilewater have been outstanding throughout the group stages, finishing with four wins and one draw from their five games.
They opened their campaign with victory over Dungarvan before producing a commanding performance against Lismore. They also got the better of Ballygunner B before sharing the spoils with Roanmore in a thrilling 1-16 apiece draw.
Their final group game saw them defeat Mount Sion, ensuring they finished the group stage unbeaten.
That consistency makes Fourmilewater the team to beat heading into the knockout stages.
There have been several standout performers throughout their campaign, with Tadhg Walsh, Pat Walsh, Tholom Guiry, Oisín Walsh, Dermot Ryan, Tom Barron, Paddy Spellman, Jamie Barron, Liam O’Brien, Evan Spellman, Sean Walsh and Aaron Ryan all playing important roles.
Sean Walsh has been a particular revelation, while Aaron Ryan has also impressed. Jamie Barron has continued to provide plenty of attacking quality and creativity.
Passage, meanwhile, have endured a much more mixed group campaign.
The Villagers finished with two wins and three defeats, with goals playing a major role in their results.
They began with a heavy defeat to Ballygunner before narrowly overcoming Clonmore. Defeats to De La Salle and Abbeyside followed, before Passage secured their senior championship status with a victory over Ferrybank in their final group game.
Despite the inconsistent campaign, Passage possess plenty of quality and experience.
Rory Jacob has been in excellent form, while inter-county star Mark Fitzgerald has also impressed. Gary Cullinane has returned to form, with Calum O’Neill another player who has made a significant contribution.
The experience of Liam Flynn, Eddie Lynch and Paul Walsh could prove particularly important in a knockout game, while Thomas Carey provides an additional scoring threat.
Passage have shown throughout the campaign that they are capable of staying in games until the closing stages and finding a way back into contests.
That could make Saturday evening an uncomfortable test for Fourmilewater, particularly if Passage can remain within touching distance heading into the final quarter.
However, on the evidence of the group stages, Fourmilewater have to be considered favourites.
They are unbeaten, have shown consistency across five games and possess a strong blend of experience, athleticism and scoring power.
Passage will undoubtedly have their moments and should not be written off, but Fourmilewater look capable of controlling enough of the game to book their place in the semi-finals.
