Waterford’s Eoin Byrne delivered a standout performance at the Irish Sailing Foundation Youth Nationals, held at Ballyholme Yacht Club in Northern Ireland from 9–12 April, claiming gold in the 29er class.
Sailing alongside Caoilinn Geraghty-McDonnell, Byrne helped secure overall victory after the fleet standings from Friday were carried through when no further racing was possible due to deteriorating conditions on the final day. The pair finished the regatta strongly, backed by two race wins that ultimately secured top spot in a highly competitive 29er fleet.

The championship itself was marked by changeable and testing weather, with organisers advancing racing on the final morning before hail squalls forced some sailors off the water. Despite the disrupted schedule, Byrne and Geraghty-McDonnell maintained consistency throughout to secure a gold Irish Sailing medal in the event, as reported by Afloat.
