Carrick Wheelers Cycling Club have enjoyed a hugely successful two-month period, with riders producing strong performances across road racing, track cycling and triathlon throughout August and September.

The club’s success began on August 1st when Martin O’Loughlin claimed gold in the M50 Scratch Race at the Masters National Track Championships in Sundrive Velodrome in Dublin.

O’Loughlin produced a superb solo victory, making his decisive move with seven laps remaining before holding on to secure the national title.

Just over a week later, on August 9th, junior rider James Logue finished fifth overall in the Collins Christle Memorial, racing against elite men.

Seamus Babington was another standout performer for Carrick Wheelers during the summer.

On August 16th, Babington travelled to Belfast and claimed second place in the Bobby Crilly Memorial C3 race before finishing runner-up again in the Emyvale GP C3 race in Monaghan the following week.

On August 29th, Babington produced an impressive performance at the Hardman Killarney Triathlon, finishing fourth after completing a 3.8-kilometre swim in the Lakes of Killarney, followed by 180 kilometres around the Ring of Kerry at an average speed of 35 kilometres per hour and a 3-hour-20-minute marathon.

His performance came in testing weather conditions.

Babington continued his excellent form at the Dungarvan Triathlon on September 5th, finishing third in the Olympic distance event behind Scott Graham and Paul Ogle.

There was further success for Martin O’Loughlin on the same day at the IVCA Track Cycling Omnium in Dublin.

After finishing seventh in the opening flying lap, he responded with second-place finishes in the scratch race, tempo race and points race to claim second overall.

O’Loughlin’s result came just a week after the Munster Road Race Championships in Whitechurch, County Cork, where he and his son Patrick O’Loughlin both claimed silver medals in their respective categories.

Martin then added another medal at the Masters National Road Race Championships in Kilmacthomas on September 13th, taking silver in the M55 category.

Despite suffering badly with cramps on the final lap, he managed to find enough in reserve during the closing stages to secure second place.

Following the race, O’Loughlin acknowledged the support of Hugh Mulhearne and Patrick O’Loughlin in the team car, along with Carrick Wheelers members who travelled to Kilmacthomas to support the riders.

Meanwhile, Amy Kinsella represented the club at Rás na mBan from September 2nd to 6th, where she was a guest rider for the Tuam Endo Ireland team.

It was a difficult edition of the race, with numerous crashes and incidents during the opening stages, but Kinsella grew stronger as the event progressed.

The demanding route included the Corrabut Gap on Mount Leinster twice on Stage 4, following the challenges of Tickincor and Seskin Hill on Stage 3 in Carrick-on-Suir.

The club’s Summer League, held in partnership with Slievenamon Cycling Club in Ballypatrick and Carrolls Cross, also recently came to a close.

James Logue finished first overall, while Patrick O’Loughlin took third place overall.

The performances rounded off an excellent period for Carrick Wheelers, with the club’s riders producing results across a range of disciplines.

The club also wished former member Hugh Óg Mulhearne of Kilmacthomas the very best ahead of the 2026 UCI Road World Championships in Montréal, Canada, where he will represent Ireland in the Men’s Junior race.

The results throughout August and September highlight the talent within Carrick Wheelers and the teamwork, commitment and support of its members.
