Waterford FC duo Tommy Lonergan and John Mahon have been nominated for the SSE Airtricity/Soccer Writers Ireland Player of the Month for July.

Lonergan, who has played a major part in the resurgence of the Blues’ fortunes since the arrival of Graham Coughlan, was the June winner of the WLR Granville Hotel Sports Star of the Month and continues to impress as he notched another two goals and two assists as Waterford finally got off the bottom of the table.

He is currently the league’s top scorer.

At the other end of the pitch Mahon has been a colossus in the centre of defence as the Blues remained unbeaten throughout the month with two wins and two draws.

The awards are voted on by football media throughout the country.
