Blues Add Full Back Ahead of Deadline

Waterford FC have announced the signing of full-back Joe Ashton ahead of the today’s transfer window deadline.
The 19 year-old makes the move to the RSC having spent the last four years with Burnley’s academy set-up in England, with loan moves Hyde United & Marine FC included during his time at Turf Moor.
Joe has made 17 appearances in National League North in England with Hyde & Marine, whilst also accumulating 30 appearances across the Premier League 2 League & Cup, and FA Youth Cup competitions during his time in the UK.
Ashton now joins the Blues for the remainder of 2026 after a successful trial period in recent weeks, where he impressed the Blues management staff.
The left-footed full back becomes their second summer signing after Blair McKenzie, and will provide competition at full-back on both sides of Graham Coughlan’s defence.
Speaking on his move to the RSC, Joe outlined his excitement to get straight to work with the club, saying:
“I’m delighted to be with the Blues & I can’t wait to get started now with the club. I’m excited to see you all at the RSC soon.”
Blues Head Coach Graham Coughlan is delighted to welcome Ashton to the club, saying:
“Joe is a good addition to our side. He’s hungry and eager, and that will only help drive the culture we’re trying to create at the club. Joe is a strong addition, he’s someone who will make our squad stronger and will add competition for places out wide. His flexibility will help us in a variety of different positions.”
