Waterford FC have announced the signing of defender Blair McKenzie, who joins the Blues on loan from Swansea City for the remainder of the 2026 season.

The 20-year-old left-footed centre-back arrives at the RSC from the EFL Championship side, having joined Swansea from Scottish club Aberdeen in May 2025.

A versatile defender, McKenzie can operate across several positions including centre-back, left-back, left wing-back and midfield. Before his move to Wales, he gained valuable senior experience in the Scottish Football League with Montrose and Elgin City, making almost 50 appearances.

Speaking after completing his move, McKenzie expressed his excitement at joining Waterford and getting the opportunity to play in front of the Blues supporters.

“Looking forward to meeting all the boys, getting down to training, and playing in front of the fans soon. I’ve heard so much about the passion here and can’t wait to pull on the jersey for the first time,” McKenzie said.

“This is a massive step for me and I’m excited to get started and give everything for this club.”

Waterford head coach Graham Coughlan believes McKenzie’s versatility will be a valuable asset for the Blues during the second half of the 2026 campaign.

“Blair will give us good balance with his left-foot. He can play at left-back, left wing-back, left sided centre-half and also in midfield,” Coughlan said.

“He has pace, he’s athletic, he’s tidy with the ball and he’s tall. He’s coming into a great dressing room and the lads will help him develop here at the club.”
