It promises to be a hugely exciting fortnight for badminton in Waterford, with both the county team and Dunmore Badminton Club preparing to compete on the national stage in two major All-Ireland events.
This Sunday, May 17th, Waterford will proudly represent Munster at the Victor Inter County Finals 2026 in Galway, hosted by Badminton Ireland.
The Déise will compete against Galway and Westmeath in what promises to be a high-quality inter-county competition featuring some of the country’s top badminton talent.
The format includes two Men’s Doubles, two Women’s Doubles, one Men’s Singles, one Women’s Singles, and three Mixed Doubles matches, providing a full showcase of county badminton.
Waterford’s opening tie against Galway gets underway at 10 am and is expected to be live-streamed on Badminton Ireland’s official YouTube channel, giving supporters at home the opportunity to follow the action live.
Meanwhile, Dunmore Badminton Club is also celebrating after their H team secured qualification for the Victor Inter League Finals 2026, which will take place at the University of Limerick on Sunday, May 24th.
The squad travelling to UL includes Gokul Suresh, Clodagh Walsh, Adrienne Forde, Chris Hearne, Michael O’Regan, Tere Sy, Janet Ayers, and Saiju Jose.
Dunmore will face Galway Lawn Tennis Club and Boyne in what is expected to be a highly competitive day of action.
The club’s qualification for the All-Ireland finals caps off what has been described as a “golden season” for Dunmore Badminton Club.

Among the highlights of the campaign were victories in the Waterford County Mixed League, the Munster Finals title, and the prestigious Haynes Cup.
The season also marked significant growth for the club, with teams fielded in the Waterford County G and H divisions. In contrast, the reintroduction of an F team for the first time in several years is being seen as a major step forward for the future of badminton in Dunmore.
Club members say the achievements reflect the dedication and commitment shown by players, coaches, managers, and volunteers throughout the season.
With two major national events on the horizon, it is shaping up to be a memorable period for badminton in Waterford.
