Waterford AC’s Benjamin Richardson has capped a remarkable weekend at the 123.ie National Senior Track and Field Championships by winning the men’s 100 metres in a new Championship Record.

Richardson stormed to victory in the final at Morton Stadium, Santry, crossing the line in 10.13 seconds to rewrite the championship record.

The Waterford AC sprinter also completed a superb sprint double, having won the 200 metres on Saturday.

UCD’s defending champion Bori Akinola took silver in 10.21 seconds, with Sean Aigboboh of Tallaght AC claiming bronze in 10.26.

Richardson’s record-breaking performance was one of the highlights of the championships, which also saw Sophie O’Sullivan set a new Championship Record in the women’s 1,500 metres.

The weekend concluded with an emotional celebration of European champion Ciara Mageean, as more than 400 juvenile athletes joined her for a special ‘Run with Ciara’ event.

A memorable weekend for Irish athletics — and a particularly special one for Waterford AC’s Benjamin Richardson, who leaves Santry as a national champion and Championship Record holder.
