Ballygunner once again underlined their status as the standard-bearers of Waterford club hurling with an emphatic 2-23 to 0-14 victory over Mount Sion in the All-County Hurling League Division 1 Final at Azzuri Walsh Park on Saturday afternoon.

The reigning champions delivered a commanding performance from the opening whistle, showcasing the quality, composure, and relentless work ethic that have become synonymous with the club’s sustained success. Goals from Jake Foley and Conor Tobin proved pivotal as Ballygunner powered their way to another county title, leaving Mount Sion with little opportunity to mount a serious challenge.

Ballygunner’s clinical finishing and ability to convert scoring chances set them apart throughout the contest. Their attacking efficiency, combined with a disciplined defensive display, ensured they maintained control from start to finish. Despite Mount Sion’s best efforts, they struggled to match the champions’ intensity and scoring power as Ballygunner steadily extended their advantage.

While the Division 1 decider captured much of the attention, there were celebrations elsewhere across the county as clubs battled for league honours in several grades.

In the Division 4 Final, Erin’s Own secured a deserved 2-21 to 2-14 victory over Affane/Cappoquin/Tourin. The winners produced an impressive attacking display, demonstrating their scoring threat throughout an entertaining encounter. Although their opponents remained competitive for long periods, Erin’s Own’s quality in front of goal ultimately proved decisive as they claimed the title.

The closest contest of the finals weekend came in the Division 6 decider, where Ardmore edged out Dunhill in a thrilling battle by 4-17 to 2-20. Goals proved the difference in a game that remained finely balanced until the closing stages.

As attention now turns towards championship action, clubs across Waterford will be eager to build on their league campaigns and carry momentum into the most important phase of the season. Ballygunner, meanwhile, have once again laid down a marker and will enter the Senior championship as the team everyone else must chase.
