Again building on the details recorded by the 1926 Census, we look at the life of Ballybricken fish and chip shop owner, Philomena Gater, as we learn about her marriage to Edward Gater and their business endeavours in the city.
Changing Times.
A time of great technological changes and advancements, which the fledgling Irish Free State was trying to get to grips with, we learn of the family’s brush with the law regarding the 1926 Wireless Telegraphy Act. However, this would pale into insignificance when the Gater’s family’s livelihood faced great peril on Christmas Eve 1939.
