
The WLR News & Current Affairs Internship Programme offers aspiring journalists and media professionals a practical introduction to the fast-paced world of local and regional broadcasting.
Interns will work alongside experienced reporters, producers, presenters, and digital journalists, gaining hands-on experience in news gathering, content production, and multimedia storytelling.
Objectives
The programme is designed to:
- Develop journalism, research, and communication skills.
- Provide exposure to newsroom operations and editorial decision-making.
- Build an understanding of broadcast, digital, and social media news production.
- Create pathways for emerging talent into the media industry.
Programme Structure
Internships will typically run for 4–12 weeks, depending on educational requirements and candidate availability.
Participants will have opportunities to:
- Attend editorial meetings and news planning sessions.
- Research stories and conduct background briefings.
- Assist with news gathering and field reporting.
- Support audio and video content production.
- Write news scripts, online articles, and social media content.
- Learn broadcasting, interviewing, and newsroom compliance standards.
