The WLR News & Current Affairs Internship Programme offers aspiring journalists and media professionals a practical introduction to the fast-paced world of local and regional broadcasting.

Interns will work alongside experienced reporters, producers, presenters, and digital journalists, gaining hands-on experience in news gathering, content production, and multimedia storytelling.

Objectives

The programme is designed to:

  • Develop journalism, research, and communication skills.
  • Provide exposure to newsroom operations and editorial decision-making.
  • Build an understanding of broadcast, digital, and social media news production.
  • Create pathways for emerging talent into the media industry.

Programme Structure

Internships will typically run for 4–12 weeks, depending on educational requirements and candidate availability.

Participants will have opportunities to:

  • Attend editorial meetings and news planning sessions.
  • Research stories and conduct background briefings.
  • Assist with news gathering and field reporting.
  • Support audio and video content production.
  • Write news scripts, online articles, and social media content.
  • Learn broadcasting, interviewing, and newsroom compliance standards.
