Waterford professionals working across Dublin gathered at the dmg media Hub on Haddington Road on Tuesday evening for the latest quarterly event organised by Déise in Dublin.
The business network, which was established in 2024, brings together people living and working in Dublin and beyond who have a connection to Waterford.
Damien Tiernan introduced the event, which focused on technology, careers and the changing business landscape.
Attendees heard from Hireovate founder Declan Fitzgerald and entrepreneur John Nugent during a discussion with Pippa Halley from Déise in Dublin.
Fitzgerald is the founder of Hireovate, which helps organisations and individuals navigate workforce change through AI-supported market intelligence and career-transition support.
Nugent is an actuary with more than 20 years’ experience in financial services.
He previously served as Head of Premier and Private Banking at Bank of Ireland and is now founder and CEO of DigiPro.ai and MortgageStop.ie.
Shane O’Sullivan of Inspiring Excellence then facilitated a relaxed networking session which allowed people to understand who is in the room, what they are working on and how they might be able to help one another.
Speaking ahead of the event, O’Sullivan said the event was about social connectivity and “disconnecting with technology and reconnecting with ourselves.”
Pippa Halley, MD of Papillo, said the great thing about having a networking group like Déise in Dublin is that “people are very open to helping one and other and supporting each other.
“People want to give back, and everyone wants to see Waterford thrive.”

Since its launch, Déise in Dublin has grown to include members ranging from students and early-career professionals to senior leaders, CEOs and business owners.
The network aims to use the experience, ideas and connections of Waterford people working in Dublin to support opportunities in the county.
Its quarterly events examine issues shaping Waterford’s future while bringing together business leaders, entrepreneurs and professionals to share ideas, develop relationships and explore potential collaborations.
The organisers said the network is united by a shared connection to Waterford and a desire to make a positive contribution to the county’s people, businesses and communities.
The latest gathering at the dmg media Hub forms part of the group’s ongoing programme of events aimed at maintaining links between Waterford’s professional community in Dublin and the county itself.
